Event Planning Airport Shopping Temptations

When your job is corporate event planning, you might spend lots of time travelling. And since most business travel involves flying somewhere, you’ll spend way too much time in airports!

Corporate Event Travel

In the “before days”, I travelled extensively, across Canada, in the USA, and in Europe too! For a few of those trips, I even managed to add on a few days of vacation, to enjoy the sites, after the event was over.

Not surprisingly, travel was limited in 2020 and 2021, and we focussed on virtual events, instead of in-person gatherings.

We’re back on the road (in the air?) again, now that most restrictions have been lifted. And I’m back in those airports again!

At the Airport

These days, it’s a good idea to get to the airport well ahead of your departure time. In the olden days, I’d arrive an hour or two ahead of my flight time. That gave me time to get through security, and not worry about missing my flight.

With the airport delays and chaos these days, I try to arrive about 3 hours ahead of a flight. The lines are long, and the people are grumpy, so who knows what trouble you might run into!

Once you’re through security though, you can relax a bit, while you find your departure gate, and check out the airport stores.

Airport Shopping Temptations

Most big-city airports have a good selection of shops, with overpriced items for you to purchase. And since you’re bored, and feel like you deserve a treat, it’s easy to succumb to those shopping temptations!

It’s hard enough to resist the treats in regular airport stores, but how can you walk past a candy store that is literally calling your name?

Candy! With your name on it!

Anyway, I’m here to brag that I somehow managed to walk past the Sarah’s Candies store in Terminal 2, at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Instead, like any well-behaved adult, I bought a trashy magazine, to read on the airplane. Celebrity gossip is a good antidote for the pain of flying, and it has zero calories – LOL!

The candy in the airport shop looked beautiful though, and maybe I’ll get some next time, if there’s another Chicago trip in my event-planning future!

More Chicago O’Hare Airport Treats

After bragging about avoiding the Sarah’s Candies shop, I’d better confess about another trip through O’Hare.

On that trip, I was in Terminal 3 at O’Hare, and spent all my money at the world-famous Garrett Popcorn shop. Is there a human alive who could resist Garrett’s Cheese Corn popcorn, or their Caramel Crisp? Or both!

In my defence, I had a 4-hour layover in Chicago on that trip, so that’s well beyond my popcorn resistance time limit. And yes, the popcorn might be high in sugar and/or salt, but on the bright side, it’s high in fibre!
