Best Easy Treats for Chocolate Day 2020 Celebration

Happy National Chocolate Day 2020! There are lots of “National Day of” events, but chocolate is truly something to celebrate. What would be the best easy treats for our Chocolate Day celebration this year? I’d like something decadent, but bite-sized, instead of party-sized. Here are a few ideas for tonight’s supper treat.

Fancy Chocolate Cake

There’s always rich, delicious chocolate layer cake at our family birthdays. However, that seems like too much work for a mid-week supper. Also, that’s a lot of cake for just two people!

Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to share our secret family recipe for Chocolate Fudge Sour Cream cake. But you could try this recipe, from the Sweetest Menu site – it’s pretty close. It seems strange to add all that hot water, but the results are amazing!

Anyway, as you can see in the photo below, I’ve always been a big fan of chocolate cake!

My son inherited that chocolate-cake-loving gene too!

Easy Chocolate Cake

If you’d like chocolate cake, but something quick and easy, I recommend this recipe for Moist Chocolate Dump Cake. It only takes a few ingredients – you don’t even need milk or eggs!

The cake is made right in the baking pan, and it only takes about 10 minutes to prepare, and 30 minutes to cook.

We usually put chocolate icing on it, after the cake cools, and sometimes a dash of rainbow-coloured sprinkles too!

Bite-Size Brownies

If you don’t feel like baking, you can buy a bag of bite-sized brownies from the supermarket. They’re chocolatey, and chewy, and just the right size for a supper treat. We have never been disappointed with a bag of those tasty treats!

By the way, long ago, I used to be a Brownie! That’s a junior level of Girl Guides, here in Canada, similar to Girl Scouts in the USA.

Homemade Brownies

If we have the time and energy, and all the ingredients, we could have homemade brownies, instead of store-bought ones. We make them occasionally, and my son is an excellent baker.

We usually use the Hershey’s Best Brownies recipe, which uses cocoa powder, instead of having to fuss with squares of chocolate. The recipe is beginner lever, and only takes 15 minutes to prepare, then 35 minutes to cook. The hard part is waiting a few minutes, until they’re cool enough to eat!

We don’t usually put the frosting on them, because that makes them a bit too sweet for our taste. And we leave out the chopped nuts and chocolate chips too!

Chocolate Bars

Here’s one more easy treat for Chocolate Day – your favourite chocolate bar! Chocolate Day is only 3 days before Halloween, when kids go out trick-or-treating. Did you already buy a bag of treats to hand out? Or to eat all by yourself?

Most years, we buy enough candy for a hundred kids, and only about 30 show up at the door. Some years, it’s even fewer, if the weather is bad.

Anyway, which chocolate treat would you like? I’ll have the Coffee Crisp, and maybe a box of Smarties later. It’s okay to have a couple of treats on Chocolate Day 2020 – we’ve earned them!
