Celebration Days List January 2022 Things to Do
Every month, there’s a long list of celebration days that you can participate in. Some days are traditional holidays – like today, which is New Year’s Day. There are also lots of “Days of” celebrations, and some of those are, shall we say, “interesting”. LOL!
Anyway, from a long list of celebrations that I’ve seen for January 2022, here are a few “Days of” that you might enjoy. I’ve broken the days into categories, and sorted by date within each category.
- New Year’s Day
- Food Days
- Health and Fitness Days
- Entertainment Days
Happy New Year
Today is January 1st, which is New Year’s Day, and if you were at a New Year’s Eve party last night, you might not be ready for too much celebrating today!
However, if you’d like to get the year off to a good start, what are your plans for today?
- Will you make a New Year’s Resolution or two? In related news, January 17th is Ditch Your Resolutions Day – LOL!
- Are you really brave, and running into some freezing water for a Polar Bear Plunge? Brrrrr!
- Do you and your family watch the Tournament of Roses Parade, to see the amazing floats? There wasn’t a parade last year, but it’s back again today!
- For more ideas, check out the list of New Year’s traditions from all around the world, on the Wikipedia New Year’s Day page.
January Food Days
Most months, there are lots of “Days of” that celebrate food, and January is no exception. Here are a few food days that we could enjoy
Jan 2 – Buffet Day
We won’t go out to a buffet restaurant any time soon, but it could be fun to set up a little supper buffet at home. We could make the theme, “Breakfast for Supper”, and help ourselves to bacon, eggs, toast, and a simple tossed salad. What you serve in your supper buffet?
Jan 4 – Spaghetti Day
Usually, we’d be happy to eat a big plate of spaghetti, with a slice of garlic bread on the side. Yum! Too bad Spaghetti Day falls on a Tuesday this year though – my son won’t want to give up his tradition of Taco Tuesdays.
Jan 15 – Bagel Day
We love bagels, so we can have them for brunch on Saturday, January 15th. Our favourite topping is cream cheese, but you can put almost anything on top of a bagel, for a yummy meal. What’s going on top of your bagel? Or, if you’re really ambitious, you could make some bagels. Try a 3 Ingredient Bagel recipe, like the one that’s shown in the Barry Lewis video, at the bottom of this page.
Jan 19 – Popcorn Day
My grandpa will be celebrating Popcorn Day, that’s for sure! It’s one of his favourite snacks, and he’ll cook some on January 19th, in his microwave. No, he won’t use one of those special microwave packages of popcorn. He just pours the kernels into a paper bag, with a bit of oil and salt, and it’s ready in a few minutes. There’s a recipe on the AllRecipes site, if you’d like to try it too!
Jan 27 – Chocolate Cake Day
I’d never pass up an opportunity to eat chocolate cake, would you? There’s always a chocolate cake at our family birthdays, and this photo below shows how much I enjoy that tradition! For smaller celebrations, I usually make this recipe for Moist Chocolate Dump Cake. It only takes a few ingredients – you don’t even need milk or eggs!
Jan 31 – Hot Chocolate Day
For the final day of January, how about more chocolate? On January 31st, you can celebrate with a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Depending on the time of day, you could even put a splash of adult beverage in it, for an end of day / end of month treat! My favourite hot chocolate additive is good old Baileys Original Irish Cream!
January Health and Fitness Days
Lots of people start health and fitness routines in January, so here are a few days that might help you stay motivated.
Jan 2 – Personal Trainer Appreciation Day
Do you have a personal trainer? I love my Peloton App membership, and appreciate the enthusiastic trainers that lead the classes there. Maybe that’s different from a personal trainer, but it’s close enough for me to celebrate!
Jan 15 – Hat Day
You might not think of Hat Day as an event in the Health and Fitness category. But, here in Canada, you need to wear a hat in January, or your ears will freeze and fall off, and that’s not healthy! In the photo below, I was out for a Christmas Eve walk, with my brother and his daughter. We’re all wearing warm hats, and doing the “penguin walk”.
(By the way, January 20th is Penguin Awareness Day)
Jan 21 – Hugging Day
Yes, Hugging Day belongs in the Health and Fitness category – hugs from your favourite people can improve your mental health. Just don’t hug any strangers, or anyone with sniffles, sneezes or coughs. That’s not good for your health!
January Entertainment Days
Here in Canada, there are lots of cold, snowy days in January, so we look for things to take our mind off of the weather. These entertainment days might help!
Jan 2 – Science Fiction Day
Do you enjoy reading science fiction books, or watching a science fiction movie? Check out the Top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy Movies list on the Rotten Tomatoes site – you might see something you’d enjoy watching! We’re fans of Star Wars and Star Trek at our house, and my son loves the Marvel and DC movies. From the photo below, you can tell that I’m a Superman fan too. Or maybe I was “Super Sarah”!
Jan 4 – Trivia Day
Every Tuesday evening, our family has a Zoom call, and we play Jackbox games, for an hour or so. Some of the party packs have trivia games, like my favourite – Trivia Murder Party 2. We’ll definitely have to play that game, in honour of Trivia Day!
Jan 9 – Word Nerd Day
Words are fun, so let’s celebrate Word Nerd Day! I’ve never heard about it before, but the University of Hawaii has some suggestions for celebrating. Will you do a crossword puzzle? Find someone to play Scrabble with? Read the dictionary? So many options / choices / alternatives!
Jan 18 – Thesaurus Day
If you enjoyed Word Nerd Day, you’ll probably love Thesaurus Day too / also / as well!
Video: Make 3 Ingredient Bagels for Bagel Day January 15th
In this 13-minute video, Barry Lewis shows how to make 3 ingredient bagels. As he says, these bagels are “stonkingly good!”
